Hi, I’m Xochilt Alamillo, a Chicana therapist, social worker, educator, and community mental health advocate.
I created this space because so many of us grew up hearing that therapy wasn’t “for us,” or that strength meant staying quiet. But our stories and identities deserve care. Healing in our communities has its own history, its own rhythm, and its own cultural truth, and it deserves to be honored.
Over the years, I’ve learned that clients aren’t the only ones who need support. Clinicians, especially BIPOC clinicians, also need places to grow, be seen, and reconnect with their purpose without burning out. This site brings all of that together: culturally grounded reflections, honest mental health conversations, and offerings like retreats, workshops, and coaching for those ready to heal, lead, and create their own path.
The Chicana Therapist was born from a simple truth: healing in our communities looks different.
For many of us, therapy wasn’t modeled or encouraged. We grew up navigating silence, survival, and generational expectations, all while carrying cultural pride and the in-between identity of being “ni de aquí, ni de allá.” Traditional mental health spaces often overlook that complexity. I wanted to create a place that doesn’t.
I chose the word Chicana intentionally.
For me, Chicana is a political, cultural, and historical identity, not just an ethnicity. It speaks to resistance, community, and a deep awareness of how systems shape our lives. It honors the mujeres who came before us, the ones who fought, organized, cared for their families, and created culture in the margins. Using Chicana signals that this space is rooted in that lineage: unapologetic, community-centered, and honest about the realities we navigate.
This platform exists to make mental health feel culturally grounded and real, for clients, clinicians, and community healers alike.
So many BIPOC providers are carrying their communities with little support of their own. The Chicana Therapist is a place for all of us: a space to learn, grow, reconnect with purpose, and build paths that feel aligned with our stories. This work is for everyone doing the heavy lifting in their families, their communities, and within themselves.
